Lake Lure and neighboring Chimney Rock are big on small town charm and hospitality. They are quintessential small mountain towns located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The Rocky Broad River flows through the Hickory Nut Gorge and feeds Lake Lure. From boating, kayaking, hiking, biking, rock climbing, zip-lining, horseback riding, fishing, and golfing, there are outdoor activities to thrill all levels of enthusiasts. After a day full of play it is a picturesque place to sit back, relax, and enjoy the fresh mountain air from a number of outdoor restaurants with views of the lake, river and Chimney Rock State Park.

- Apple Valley Golf Course is routed through the Blue Ridge Foothills creating one of the most unique layouts.
- Canopy Ridge Farm offers seasonal zip-lining and UTV Tours and is appropriate for ages 4+.
- Cedar Creek Stables offers guided trail rides. It’s recommended to book in advance during the busy season (April – October). You can book a private guided tour if you have a group of four or more.
- Chimney Rock State Park offers hiking and expansive views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Lake Lure and Rumbling Bald Mountain. Don’t worry if you aren’t an avid hiker, there is an elevator from the bottom making this breathtaking view accessible to everyone.
- Lake Lure Washburn Marina offers guided boat tours of Lake Lure and private boat rentals. If you are bringing your own kayak or paddleboard you can also obtain a daily visitor boat permit here.
- Lake Lure Adventure Company is definitely an adventure! They offer private boat rentals, waterskiing, tubing, kneeboarding and wakeboarding. The staff is also amazing.
- Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is a community volunteer planted and preserved Wildlife Habitat recognized by the National Wildlife Federation. It is a must see any time of year and an easy stroll for all ages and activity levels. The entrance is free and don’t miss the scavenger hunt cards in the mailboxes at either entrance.
- Riverside Riding Stables is also great for trail rides, including a River Ride where you are bound to get wet.
- Rumbling Bald Mountain is one of the largest and best climbing and bouldering spots with over 882 documented climbable routes. The trailhead is located off of Boys Camp Road. There are climbs for beginners and professionals alike.
- Silver Creek Tubing is a great way to get out on the Green River and relax. It makes for a great adventure to the neighboring town of Saluda.
