After living between small towns and large cities, we, Shaun and Jody, met in 2009 in New York City. On our first date we discovered we both wanted to travel, retire abroad and dreamt of owning and operating a small guest house. After many travels domestically and abroad, another part of our dream was realized when in July of 2022 we took over the Gaestehaus Salzburg, a thriving Bed and Breakfast established in 1995 by Werner and Patricia Maringer.
In carrying on the legacy of the Gaestehaus we hope guests will feel the same sense of belonging, discovery, and rest we have found here. With our backgrounds in teaching and live event operations we endeavor to create an approachable, entertaining environment giving guests the freedom to kick back and relax.
The main house, which was the original bed and breakfast, is our residence. We hope that all visitors, new and old, choosing to stay at The Shaded Crest feel as though they are being welcomed into our home and enjoy going on this journey with us becoming a part of our story.
The Shaded Crest is a six-cabin retreat atop a hill on seven private heavily wooded acres in Western North Carolina. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a hike, a day on the lake or The Rocky Broad River, or a wandering drive to explore the many small towns or cities close to Lake Lure.

We will be closed from November 1, 2023, through June 1, 2024. We are embarking on an extensive renovation project to enhance our common areas. We look forward to welcoming you back to our revitalized space when we reopen.
