Frequently Asked Questions

Owners are on-site and available for special requests, directions, and general area information between the hours of 9am – 9pm. In case of an emergency call us at 828-333-7241.

What time is check-in? Check out?

Check-in: 4:00pm / Check-out: 10:00am. Please call us if you anticipate arriving after 8pm so that other arrangements can be made. Please turn in your key and be sure to check your room for all personal belongings. We require adequate time to clean cabins to accommodate the next guests. We will gladly do our best to accommodate any requests for a later check-out. A $50 re-keying charge is added for keys not returned to management.

Where is The Shaded Crest located?

The Shaded Crest is located at 1491 Memorial Hwy., Lake Lure, NC 28746. Look for our business sign at the bottom of the driveway.

For the most accurate directions, please use the map on our Google Business page. GPS may occasionally show the driveway slightly sooner than it actually is, so keep an eye out for our sign.

If you’re arriving via US 64W or NC-9, you’ll find us on the left, just 0.8 miles past the Lake House Restaurant.

Is there a minimum age requirement for booking?

Yes, we require an adult over the age of 21 to book our cabins. 

Can I bring pets?

We do not allow pets and only accept service animals that fall under the ADA guidelines. Emotional support/therapy dogs are not considered service animals – they are pets. Please do not try to pass your pet off as a service animal – it is an insult to true service animals and their owners. We have three furry family members, Bolt is our friendly dog and collared. Rocky and Kacie are our two indoor/outdoor cats. Please do not let them in your cabin. Guests who arrive with pets will be charged the full rate, as a cancellation.

Do you serve food?

While we are not operating the previous restaurant at this time, we’ve got you covered! Check out our list of favorite local restaurants under the “Things to Do” section, and don’t forget to browse the guest books in each cabin for even more dining recommendations.

What is your cancellation policy?

Upon booking, you will be charged the full amount of your stay including taxes and fees. We understand unexpected things happen. As a small family-run business we rely on the commitment of our guests to stay in operation. For cancellations, within 14 days or more of arrival, a full refund will be issued. A 50% refund will be issued if canceling 8-14 days prior to check-in.  No refunds will be given if canceling within 7 days prior to check-in. Reservations for holidays or holiday weekends cannot be canceled or refunded.  “No Shows” will be charged for the entire reservation booked. However, if your cabin gets rebooked for your dates, you will be notified and receive a full refund.

What is your policy with respect to children?

While we require persons over the age of 21 to book our cabins, all guests must be 16 or older

Is smoking permitted?

Smoking is permitted on your private deck only.  There is no smoking in any communal areas.  Absolutely no smoking or use of any type of tobacco products inside rooms, including vape pens. Guest will be charged an additional $150 for deep cleaning and sanitizing. Please use provided ashtrays as cigarettes are an immediate fire hazard and we’re in the middle of a heavily wooded area. Please be considerate of your neighbors.

What about the pool and spa?

Our saltwater pool and spa are open year-round, with operating hours from 9:00 AM to dusk daily. While the pool remains unheated, the spa can be heated upon guest request—please let us know in advance if you’d like to enjoy the heated spa during your stay. For everyone’s safety, glass is not permitted in the pool or spa areas.

What about the communal area?

Our communal area is available daily from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM for all guests to enjoy. Grills are available until 8:00 PM. Cooking utensils are not left outside but are provided upon request in sanitized bins. Quiet hours in the communal area are from 9:00 PM to 10:00 AM. You are welcome to be outside during this time; we simply ask that noise is kept at a respectful level to ensure everyone’s comfort. For safety reasons, glass is also not permitted in the communal area.

Can I book for one night only?

Yes! Our Garden Studios are now available for single-night stays, ideal for a quick getaway or when you’re passing through. We do not encourage a one-night stay as you cannot benefit from the full range of things to do in the area. However, we understand needing “down time” from your hectic lifestyle or are traveling through town and need a place to stay.

Do all cabins have TV and WI-FI?

Yes! We provide free high-speed fiber optic Wi-Fi throughout the property. Each cabin comes with a Smart TV, offering access to Roku Channels for TV shows and movies. You can also log in to your favorite streaming services. Please note, we do not have local channels

Do you allow Motorcycles?

Yes, motorcycles are welcome but not recommended, as it can be challenging. Please note that the apron of the driveway is steep transitioning from rough pavement into a steeper gravel driveway. It can be difficult to capture the full steepness in photos, so we recommend only experienced riders navigate the gravel section. Exercise extreme caution when arriving and departing.

 
Can I bring a Motorhome, trailer, or Boat?

We are unable to accept motorhomes, trailers, or boats as there is not enough space to park them. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Are there charcoal grills or can I bring mine?

Due to our natural forest surroundings and the heightened risk of fire, charcoal grills are not permitted. For your convenience, we provide a gas grill and flat-top grill, along with basic grilling utensils.

Do all cabins have heat and air conditioning? Fireplace?

All cabins have heat, air conditioning, and ceiling fans. The Perch and The Snug also have small gas fireplaces.

Are there any discounts, specials or packages?

We offer varying rates for booking the entire property depending on the nature of the booking. Please contact us directly for details. There are no discounts on holidays or holiday weekends. Stay connected with us on social media (@TheShadedCrest) not just for impromptu promotions, but also to keep up with our latest news, events, and a glimpse into life at The Shaded Crest!”

What should we bring with us?

We suggest bringing your own pool towels. We can provide these upon request. Ingles is less than a 5-minute drive away to stock your fridge for anything you may have forgotten. While our kitchens are equipped with the basics, you might want to bring your favorite cooking or serving items. Don’t forget hiking boots and a good book! We also provide linens, hand soap, dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, as well as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for your convenience.

What kitchen amenities are available?

The Haven, Perch, and Roost have full kitchens. The Snug does not have an oven but comes with a dual induction cooktop. These cabins come with dishware, silverware, glasses and basic cookware and utensils. The Garden Studio kitchenettes are complete with a mini fridge with freezer, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and electric water kettle. These two cabins have dishware, silverware and glasses. All cabins come with coffee, sugar and creamers. There is an outdoor shared gas grill and flat top with basic grilling utensils.

Please note the Garden Studios do not have any cooking appliances

Can I book the entire property?

Yes, you can book the entire property for retreats, reunions, or any special occasion.  Please contact us directly via phone or email for rates.
